Everyone has more strength than they think. When something worries you, finding that strength starts with looking at the problem calmly and taking the next small step.
This photo shows a man in his fifties with a red, raised lump on the top of his shoulder, about the size of a golf ball, with a small yellowish head near the center.
A lump like this is very likely an inflamed epidermoid cyst. It forms when a pore or hair follicle gets blocked and a small pocket under the skin fills with keratin.
The shoulder is a common spot, because straps, seat belts and clothing rub the skin there every day and can irritate a small cyst until it swells.
Once it is inflamed, the cyst can grow over a few days, feel warm and tender, and hurt when he lifts his arm or carries a bag on that side.
