Know your skin

The better we know our own skin, the sooner we notice when something changes and needs attention.

Sometimes a patch of skin on the cheek turns red and swollen, with one or two small dark openings right in the middle.

These openings are often the tops of blocked pores or cysts that sit deep under the skin and connect to the surface.

Over time they fill with oil and keratin, and the skin around them becomes inflamed, tender and rough to the touch.

Many people try to squeeze them, but pressing on facial cysts can push the contents deeper and cause more redness.
