Ask for help

Asking for help is not a weakness. Many of the problems we struggle with alone become much easier the moment someone else steps in.

A cyst on the back is one of those problems. It is hard to reach, hard to see and almost impossible to care for properly without another pair of hands.

Often it is a wife, a daughter or a friend who notices the red lump first and helps clean it, cover it and finally convinces the person to see a doctor.

Back cysts form when a hair follicle or oil gland becomes blocked. Over months or years the trapped keratin builds up and the lump keeps getting bigger.

When bacteria get inside, the cyst can become painful, warm and swollen. At this stage it is important not to squeeze it, because that can spread the infection.
