One day at a time

Big problems feel smaller when we take them one day at a time, and the same is true when it comes to our health.

A lump on the cheek just in front of the ear can appear quietly and then, over a few days, grow into a swollen, purple bump.

This area has many oil glands and hair follicles, so cysts and inflamed bumps are quite common there, especially in men who shave.

Sometimes a small cyst sits next to the larger lump, and both can become red, tender and filled with yellow material.

Shaving over the area, touching it or sleeping on that side can irritate it further and make the swelling worse.
