A doctor will usually clean the area, numb the skin and open the cyst carefully, letting the pressure out in a controlled and safe way.
If the cyst is not too inflamed, the whole sac can be removed straight away. If it is very swollen, it may be drained first and removed later once it calms down.
The recovery is usually simple. A clean dressing, a little patience and someone to help change it are often all that is needed.
