A doctor will first examine the lump, press gently around it and check how deep it sits and whether it is infected.
To treat it, the area is numbed, a small opening is made and the contents are drained. Removing the whole sac helps stop the cyst from coming back.
Afterwards the wound is covered with clean gauze, kept dry for a day or two and checked for signs of infection while it heals.
Washing the back well, wearing breathable clothes after exercise and not squeezing bumps at home all help prevent new cysts.
Remember that you are not alone and that help is close by. The videos below show cysts on the back being treated by professionals.
